On May 14 we had a special broadcast on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel. What should have been a cheerful and celebratory event became an important symbol for supporting Israel in times of crisis through the rocket fire by the terrorist group Hamas. The World Chairman of Keren Hayesod, Sam Grundwerg, reported on the traumatic experiences of many people in Israel due to the rocket fire and called for the financial support of programs which support victims of terror. In total, nearly 40,000€ were raised.
While presenting the check in Tübingen Jobst Bittner, President of the March of Life Movement said, “We thank all donors for their generous support, which will make it possible to finance three mobile bomb shelters in Israel and, beyond that, immediate help can be financed for impacted families in Israel. It is a very practical expression of the message of the March of Life – to make a statement for Israel and against Antisemitism!”
Udi Lehavi, representative of Keren Hayesod in Germany, thanked March of Life for the large support and explained the situation in Israel: “Many people in Israel do not have their own bomb shelters in their homes, but rely on public shelters. In the case of a rocket attack, the possibility of finding secure protection within seconds of when the “RED ALERT” alarms go off can determine between life and death. The mobile bomb shelters close to homes, educational institutions, industrial parks and agricultural regions could considerably increase the feeling of being protected in an emergency. This signal of friendship from Germany will have a wonderful impact!”
Heinz Reuss, International Director of March of Life, thanked Keren Hayesod for the outstanding collaboration: “You gave us the possibility to express our friendship and help in a very practical way through this project.”
We are looking forward to being live in Israel again soon with the March of the Nations and to personally show our friendship and support.
