Can Foes Become Friends?

From Foes to Friends Exhibition

No people in the world have faced as much enmity as the Jewish people. From the moment Abraham was called by G-d to the land of Canaan, and from him a nation arose, the Jewish fate has been inseparably linked with the hostility of other peoples. But where does this deeply rooted antagonism come from, which continues to manifest in new forms and faces, yet remains fundamentally the same?

This exhibition seeks to explore that question. Is it truly possible for lasting friendships to arise from centuries of hatred—friendships that endure even in times of crisis, supporting the Jewish people and the State of Israel?

The international March of Life movement began with the descendants of Nazi perpetrators from Germany, who set out on a journey of truth to confront the history of their own families. Along the way, they broke the silence of their ancestors and visited the sites of the Holocaust. At these places of horror, a transformation took place—a journey that turned foes into friends.

This exhibition invites you to follow this path of transformation. It encourages you to confront history, ask difficult questions, and discover how even the worst of enemies can become allies, supporters, and friends.

The Coat of Many Colors

The coat that Jacob gave to his favorite son Joseph shows what being chosen means. It is a choice out of love – just as G-d chose Israel. The coat is imprinted with the promises to Israel in the Tanakh – about the land, the people and the blessing they are to have.

The cut tree

A withered tree made of paper and the various denominations as brown leaves.

The early church separated itself from its Jewish roots in the first centuries and railed against the Jews. With dramatic consequences: Christian Anti-Judaism claimed 13 million victims over the centuries and laid the foundations for the Antisemitism of modern times.

The World Map of Antisemitism

A world map with a selection of countries (all countries will be shown in the planned permanent exhibition) and their history of antisemitism and the Holocaust. It includes countries in Europe, the Americas, North Africa and Asia.

The Veil of Silence

A curtain with the image of the Breaking the Veil of Silence book, through which the visitor must pass. The exhibition leads to the question: How can the silence in me, my family, my country be broken in the face of antisemitism? In doing so, it addresses the Jewish concept of “teshuva” and the Christian understanding of repentance. True transformation can only come through turning the other way.

Family Stories

The March of Life movement has led to many friendships between descendants of perpetrators and victims. We use photos to tell individual encounters and family stories that came together. The message is: We are united to be a light.

Our vision

This pop-up exhibition offers a first glimpse of the permanent exhibition planned in Jerusalem. It aims to inspire international visitors to Israel to break the Veil of Silence over antisemitism—especially within their own countries and churches.

We believe transformation is possible: former enemies can become friends who speak out against antisemitism and stand in true solidarity with Israel.
