They are thereby remembering the deportation of over 100,000 Jews from the Westerbork transit camp to the Auschwitz and Sobibor extermination camps, which began on July 15, 1942. These deportations, which claimed the lives of over 90% of the Jewish population in the Netherlands, were only possible due to the systematically stoked hatred of Jews and the indifference of the majority of the population. Today, when antisemitism is once again showing its ugly face after October 7, they are taking a stand for Jewish life and for Israel saying:
